When Was Mount Rushmore Made?
How Many Steps to get to Mount Rushmore?
I'm going on a road trip this summer and we're gonna stop by Mt. Rushmore. I was curious, how many flights of stairs, and how many steps does it take to get to the top of the base? (Where you can see the mount rushmore better than below)
The workers had to climb 506 steps daily to get to the top of Mount Rushmore.
Sculptor Gutzon Borglum began drilling into the 5,725-foot mountain in 1927, at the age of 60.
Creation of the Shrine of Democracy took 14 years and cost a mere $1 million.
Rushmore's granite faces tower 5,500 feet above sea level.
The carvings on Mount Rushmore are scaled to men who would stand 465 feet tall.
Each head on Mt. Rushmore is as tall as a six-story building.
More that 800 million pounds of stone were removed from Mount Rushmore while carving the presidents.
Each president's face is as tall as the entire Great Sphinx of Egypt, measuring 60 feet from the chin to the top of the head.
The president's noses are 20 feet long, each mouth 18 feet wide and the eyes are 11 feet across.
Mount rushmore was intended to depict the presidents to the waist- why don't we finish it?
Mount Rushmore, as shown by the carving models made by the designer of it, was originally intended to depict the presidents all the way to the waist. If you compare the present carvings with the intended original, Mount Rushmore is sadly incomplete. Funding was cut, and the carvings forced to pack up- why has the government given up on finishing a clearly incomplete project? I DO NOT mean more heads should be added (as answered in a previous question)- I mean that the bodies should be finished.
This would be another example of wasteful spending that we can no longer afford. I have never seen Mt Rushmore , but at age 52 I intend to go this summer. I see from your comments someone else has probably already said what I am about to suggest. When and if we can get our government back and get out from under all this debt, I would like to see Reagan added to the mountain.
How is it that Mount Rushmore was made?
I hurd from my frend that mt rushmore formed ovr 1000s of years. How is it that tha faces got there? waz it the rain or the wind?its kinda spooky how the mntn lookz jus like that guy on the doller bill.
Your friend is blowing smoke up your butt. Mt. Rushmore was carved by a sculptor on a government grant.
How was the site for mount Rushmore prepared?
Who did what on the site of mount Rushmore to prepare it for the mountain to be built? Please post links as well!
"for the mountain to be built"?
It was a mountain and was cut away to get to solid rock (including redesigning when weak rock was found) and then was drilled and jack hammered to make the faces.
You can find all kinds of history of the making online including the national park service and wikipedia. 1&2 on this search http://www.google.com/search?hl=&q=mount+rushmore+history&sourceid=navclient-ff&rlz=1B3GGGL_enUS366US366&ie=UTF-8&aq=3&oq=mount+rus
