Places that are shockingly warm for how far they are from the equator.

Changchun in January is coldest place on Earth?

I've been told this is one of the coldest places on earth. I was hoping a local could confirm this. Thanks.

While Changchun is quite cold in winter, it's not the coldest place on earth. All of the northern part of Heilongjiang province are equally cold. Harbin is north of Changchun and is probably colder. Antarctica claims the distinction of being the absolute coldest place on earth. Additionally, the plains of Mongolia and the Siberian steppes are colder as well.

where is the coldest place on earth other that the Artic?

I mean an inhabited place.

The Antarctic. Antarctica is the coldest, windiest and driest place on Earth. It has no indigenous residents, but there are a lot of scientists and the various bases are staffed year round, including the base at the south pole. The next coldest place that has actual cities and people would be Siberia.
